COVINGTON, La (KNOE 8 News<\/a>) \u2013<\/strong><\/span> The heroic efforts and quick thinking from an officer, saved the lives of a Louisiana State Trooper and his family<\/span> $\"\"$ <\/span><\/a>. The police officer, who saw that his neighbors house was on fire, is now called a hero.<\/p>\n

Saint Tammany Fire Crews said that the fire started around 5:30 Sunday morning in an exterior storage room that connected to the home<\/span> $\"\"$ <\/span><\/a> of the State Trooper Paul Strickland. His neighbor, Covington Police Officer Darren Powell woke up to the noise and smoke and quickly ran next door to wake the sleeping family; helping them to safety all while his wife call 911.<\/p>\n

Powell said in a statement, \u201cI said your house<\/span> $\"\"$ <\/span><\/a> is on fire, you need to get out, so we came around, and we were trying to\u2013 I grabbed the hose, we were trying to put it out underneath the garage, and within five minutes, it took off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family and their pets were able to make it out safely. The men were able to\u00a0 control<\/span> $\"\"$ <\/span><\/a> the fire with a garden hose until fire rescue arrived.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire has not been determined.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
