ALLEN CO., Ind. (WANE<\/a>)\u00a0One woman is thanking an Allen County, Indiana Sheriff\u2019s deputy after he rescued her from her SUV in frigid water over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The slide off on Saturday was among dozens over the weekend, stretching officers pretty thin.\u00a0On that morning, Officer Chris Amstutz, a veteran of three years, said he was in the right place at the right time. However,\u00a0Angelica Yanez said it meant more than that.<\/p>\n

Officer Amstutz was pulled over on the side of Yohne Road Saturday morning doing paperwork for another slide off.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Amstutz was on her way to her family\u2019s restaurant, a path she always takes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just happened to look up, looked down the road, saw two vehicles coming at me. I saw the rear vehicle lose control, start to slide, then I saw it flip into the ditch,\u201d Amstutz said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized that it was filling up with water. Water was coming up to my chest and I was very scared,\u201d Yanez said. \u201cThinking like now, I\u2019m here by myself so then when I started looking all over the place I realized that the vehicle was upside down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officer immediately jumped into the water and tried to get inside. However the doors were locked and the windows were closed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody was knocking and I started yelling \u2018help, I\u2019m here, I\u2019m here,\u2019\u201d Yanez said.<\/p>\n

Officer Amstutz went back to his car to get a tool to smash the rear window.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot her into my car, in the warmth until the ambulance could get there,\u201d Amstutz said.<\/p>\n

It was one of dozens of slide offs last weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were stretched pretty thin as far as working other crashes that day. So, it could have been at least 20 minutes or move until somebody got here at least,\u201d Amstutz said.<\/p>\n

The wife and mother of six, breast cancer survivor and nursing home director believes God was with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely think that God gave me another opportunity. He still has something for me but maybe I don\u2019t know what.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yanez reached out to the officer to\u00a0thank him and wants to\u00a0thank the woman passing by and stopped and a paramedic named Rachel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so glad that there\u2019s still people with those big hearts and thank you so much everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yanez said although the car was upside down, she was sitting right side up, a mystery to her that she believes was only made possible by God.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
