{"id":13624,"date":"2016-01-18T19:08:09","date_gmt":"2016-01-18T19:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13624"},"modified":"2016-01-18T19:10:19","modified_gmt":"2016-01-18T19:10:19","slug":"trapped-utility-worker-rescued-after-snellville-cave-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/georgiaarsoncontrol.org\/?p=13624","title":{"rendered":"Trapped utility worker rescued after Snellville cave-in"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p>Watch the report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.11alive.com\/story\/news\/local\/lawrenceville-snellville\/2016\/01\/03\/happening-now-utility-worker-trapped-after-snellville-cave-\/78241928\/\" target=\"_blank\">HERE\u203a\u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SNELLVILLE, Ga. -(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.11alive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">11 Alive<\/a>)- Firefighters worked quickly\u00a0to rescue a worker who became trapped in a Snellville trench collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened in the 1900 block of Rockside Lane SW around 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the technical rescue team worked to free a utility worker who was buried up to his chest in a trench that is about 8 to 10 feet deep.<\/p>\n<p>The worker was trapped for over an hour as rescue workers carefully attempted to dig him out of the trench.<\/p>\n<p>They also worked to get fresh warm air down to the man encased in dirt dipping to temperatures just above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n<p>The man was\u00a0conscious, breathing and communicating with rescuers at the time they arrived but workers said the small confined space and potential for further collapse made the rescue difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, the man was rescued with what firefighters described as minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>A Gwinnett Fire spokesperson said the man was working to repair a water line in the front yard of a home.
