CLAYTON COUNTY FIRE RULED ARSON – REWARD OFFERED

The City of Morrow is devastated by a fire that destroyed three homes last night in The District. It is believed that the fires were intentionally set. Anyone with information should call Georgia Arson Control at 1-800-282-5804, or call Morrow Police at 770-961-4006. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information.
Morrow Police and Fire investigators are asking for the public’s help investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed three historic homes in “The District,” a city-owned community space.
The fire began around midnight on Saturday, June 04, 2022. Crews from the Morrow and Clayton County Fire Departments battled the blaze for several hours but were ultimately unable to save the three buildings. Investigators believe the fire started in one home, and quickly spread to two others close by.
Investigators believe a group of individuals was in the home before the fire started, as early as 8:45pm on Friday, June 03; and the fire was visible by midnight. Anyone who saw persons or vehicles in or around The District during that time should call Morrow Police at 770-961-4006 or Georgia Arson Control at 1-800-282-5804. Tips can be anonymous, and a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Morrow Fire Chief Roger Swint has requested the assistance of the State Fire Marshal’s Investigation Unit, including the use of accelerant detection canine teams, to determine the fire origin and cause. “The location and intensity of the fire are suspicious, and early indications suggest this fire is likely the result of arson or fire setting by a person or persons,” Chief Swint said. The City of Morrow’s Fire Marshal will head the probe alongside state officials.
The Morrow Police Department is also assisting in the criminal investigation. Detectives have early leads suggesting more than one suspect. “Unfortunately, The District has been a frequent target of vandals, even as new tenants have begun moving into the site,” said Interim Police Chief David Snively. “Our detectives have successfully identified several previous offenders, including an attempted arsonist; and we will work tirelessly with fire investigators to determine the exact events surrounding this incident as well.” Chief Snively said.
Mayor John Lampl said, “this is a very sad day for our community. The District has become an important community gathering space, the home of many City events, and the site of several new businesses. The loss of these beautiful, historic homes at the heart of our city is a cruel blow to the residents and community members who utilize this area. We grieve with our community, and with the business owners who have poured their dreams into this venue; and we are committed to identifying and holding responsible anyone who was involved in the catastrophic damage caused by this fire.”
“Two of the buildings in The District were under contract, and architectural plans are being reviewed for two others even as new requests for commercial space are being processed by the City,” said Morrow City Manager Jeff Baker. “This is a devastating setback just as we’ve begun to turn the corner and fill the long-vacant spaces at The District; and it is an especially tragic loss of history, including the Napier-Small house, a distinguished example of Greek-Revival architecture built in 1846 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.”
Situated between Southlake Mall and Interstate 75, The District -known previously as Olde Towne Morrow- sits ten minutes south of the Atlanta Airport poised to become the commercial hub of Morrow. After years of effort and very recent redevelopment, nearly a half-dozen businesses are making plans to occupy space in The District and offer service to residents and visitors in Atlanta’s southern crescent.

SAVANNAH FIRES RULED ARSON – REWARD OFFERED

May be an image of 1 person

(WTOC) – The three fires investigators believe this person could be linked to all happened around the Savannah Visitor Center parking lot. Out of those three downtown fires, six vehicles were damaged, including a tour bus.

Anyone with information can call the Savannah Fire Department at 912.644.5959 or the Georgia Arson Hotline, which awards up to $10,000 for information leading to a conviction, at 1.800.282.5804.

The owner of Freedom Trail Tour has been in business since 2001, primarily using this one bus. And Wednesday night, his tour bus went up in flames.

Brown says investigators told him it appeared someone got inside the tour bus and poured gas or some kind of accelerant throughout, before lighting it on fire. Brown adds he doesn’t know for certain why someone would’ve targeted his vehicle, but to whoever did, he has this message.

“And the person, if you’re looking, I mean…I don’t wish you no ill, I don’t wish you no…I don’t have hard feelings toward you. I’m kind of over this now. I’m gonna pray for the person, and I would with that person come to Christ. I mean, these are the times we’re living in, people doing all these crazy things now. But we need to get closer to God,” Brown said.

Brown says he is in the process of having a crowd funding site set up to help buy a new tour bus. In the mean time, he says other tour companies are chipping in to help him keep his Freedom Trail Tour going.

GoFundMe has been set up to help Brown.
