(Fox 5) – Firefighters in Gwinnett County were greeted with a Christmas surprise Monday morning.

April Turgeon and many others in the community delivered Christmas stockings filled with goodies to every fire station in Gwinnett County.

“I got the idea after seeing a similar concept on Facebook,” April Turgeon said. “So I posted about it and got tons of responses.”

Turgeon told FOX 5, complete strangers started calling to find out how they can help.

“The response was overwhelming,” Turgeon said. “We got so many donations and then there were tons of people who volunteered their time on Christmas Day to deliver the stockings.”Turgeon stuffed more than 200 stockings-one for every firefighter working on the holiday.

“We even made a few extras just in case,” Turgeon said. “Each one was different, but they were all filled with love.”

Firefighters at Station Three tell FOX 5 they were humbled by the kind gesture.

“It can be hard to be away from family on the holidays, so to have strangers come and bring us this just really means a lot,” Deputy Fire Chief Charles Wells said.

Next year Turgeon says she wants to deliver stockings to all of the first responders in Gwinnett County.
